Rent an AlphaGo inflatable camper trailer on Kampi. No poles, 5-minute setup, sleeps 6. Available in Cape Town and Gauteng. Try before you buy.
There's a camper trailer company in Cape Town doing something nobody else in South Africa is doing. AlphaGo builds off-road camper trailers with patented inflatable air tent technology. No tent poles. No fumbling with guy ropes in the dark. You press a button, wait five minutes, and your trailer unfolds into a multi-room setup with bedrooms, a lounge, a full kitchen, and a shower.
And here is the part that matters if you are reading this on Kampi: every AlphaGo rental in South Africa goes through our platform. Cape Town, Gauteng - they chose Kampi as their exclusive rental partner. So you can rent one for a weekend and find out what the fuss is about before you think about spending R450,000 on one.
Donovan and Boudine Marais started AlphaGo in Cape Town in 2022. The idea was straightforward: build an off-road camper trailer that anyone can set up in minutes, without the backache of tent poles and canvas wrestling. They licensed patented inflatable air beam technology from Opus Camper, a global name in air tent systems, and became the only manufacturer in South Africa using this technology.
Opus Camper liked what they saw enough to acquire a stake in AlphaGo in 2023. When an international camper manufacturer puts money into your Cape Town startup, that says more than any spec sheet.
Forget tent poles. The tent uses inflatable air beams that run through the canvas structure. Connect the pump, press the button, and the whole thing inflates and takes shape. Five to ten minutes from trailer to living space.
Each air beam has its own shut-off valve. If one beam loses pressure, the rest stay rigid. The canvas is ripstop and water-repellent with a heat-reflective roof. AlphaGo says it handles winds up to 50 km/h, which is more than enough for most South African campsites.
Their tagline: No Poles. Go Anywhere.
AlphaGo has two model lines available for rental on Kampi, with three published listings across Cape Town and Gauteng.
The big one. Sleeps six across two private bedroom pods and a wrap-around lounge that converts into a third double bed. Each bedroom has a memory foam mattress and privacy screens. Proper rooms, not a shared tent divided by a strip of canvas.
Specs:
The kitchen slides out from the side on stainless steel runners. Two-burner gas stove (four-burner on some models) with wind visors, stainless-steel basin with hot and cold running water from an onboard 5L geyser, fold-over drying rack, and a slide-out prep table. Fits up to a 75L fridge. You can cook a proper meal for six people here, not just boil water for two-minute noodles.
For off-grid stays: 75L water tank, 100Ah deep cycle battery, 12V and 220V power, and an external hot and cold shower. Optional extras include a 200W foldable solar panel, a 2,000W inverter, a lithium battery upgrade, and a 60-inch HD projector with screen. The S6 also packs a 20L porta-loo and an optional inflatable bathroom annex that connects to the trailer. No more 2am torch walks.
The Delta Air is a newer model with the same inflatable technology. It adds a Pano-Max tent system with panoramic views, a large inflatable front awning, and an air bathroom you can access from inside the trailer. Same stainless steel slide-out kitchen and HD cinema system, but with more living space and upgraded finishes.
Both the S6 and Delta Air are listed on Kampi in Cape Town and Gauteng.
An AlphaGo S6 Air V4 costs around R450,000. The Delta Air is in a similar range. These are premium trailers and they are priced accordingly. But R450,000 is a lot to spend on something you have never actually slept in.
Renting before you buy lets you answer the questions that showroom visits and YouTube videos cannot:
We wrote a longer piece on renting versus buying a caravan in South Africa. The short version: a few thousand rand on a weekend rental beats a R450k surprise.
Every rental on Kampi comes with insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance. AlphaGo rentals included. If something goes wrong on the N7 between Cape Town and Citrusdal, you are covered.

These are not tar-road trailers. Galvanised steel chassis, 16-inch all-terrain tyres, and 8-blade leaf spring suspension. Built for gravel, sand, and river crossings. The built-in roof cargo cage takes canoes, bikes, or extra storage. Dual slide-out ammo box compartments keep recovery gear, tools, and braai wood organised.
Planning a Kruger road trip, a Garden Route drive, or a Drakensberg trip? An AlphaGo handles whatever road you put it on. Both models need an EB licence, so make sure yours is sorted before you book. No EB? Kampi has plenty of Code B campers that do not need one.
AlphaGo calls their trailers a "multi-room villa on wheels." That is their line, not ours. But once you have parked the S6, inflated the tent, slid out the kitchen, put the camp chairs by the fire, and fired up the projector with a cold one in hand - you start to get it. This is camping with none of the usual compromises.
And that is the point of renting one through Kampi. You get the full experience of a R450,000 trailer for a fraction of the cost. If you love it, you know exactly what you are buying. If it is not your thing, you still had a weekend worth talking about.
There are currently three AlphaGo listings live on Kampi. They get booked up, so plan ahead.

A lightweight, air-beam trailer tent that sets up from an integrated trailer in under 15 minutes. Easy to tow and store.
Around 10 to 15 minutes for the main structure, faster once you are familiar.
The lighter AlphaGo models fall under 750 kg GVM, which means Code B is sufficient. Confirm the specific unit's GVM before booking.
