Witbank (eMalahleni) sits on the N4 between Joburg and Kruger, and most people know it as the halfway point on the drive east. It's about 2 hours from Joburg and 2 hours from the southern Kruger gates, which makes it a practical overnight stop if you don't want to do the full drive in one go. The town itself is industrial, coal mining country, but the Mpumalanga highlands start just east of here. Kampi lists campers in the Witbank area that are well placed for Kruger, the Panorama Route, and Dullstroom side trips.

Head east on the N4 and you'll hit Belfast in 40 minutes, then Dullstroom (1 hour), Machadodorp (1.5 hours), Nelspruit (2.5 hours), and Kruger's Malelane Gate in about 3 hours. From Belfast, the R540 branches north toward the Panorama Route and Graskop (2 hours). Dullstroom is worth a stop, fly-fishing, craft beer, and mountain air at 2,000m. Back west on the N4, Joburg is 2 hours.
