Mpumalanga is where the Highveld drops off the escarpment into the Lowveld, and the views are something else. Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world. The Panorama Route takes you past God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, and the Three Rondavels. And then there's Kruger, the southern gates (Numbi, Phabeni, Malelane) are all within easy reach of Nelspruit. Find a caravan rental from a local Mpumalanga owner on Kampi and do a Kruger trip and the Panorama Route in one go.

The Panorama Route (R532/R36) is a full day's drive of viewpoints. God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, and the Three Rondavels overlooking Blyde River Canyon, properly jaw-dropping. Southern Kruger gates (Numbi, Phabeni, Malelane, Crocodile Bridge) are 1-2 hours from Nelspruit. Stop at Pilgrims Rest on the way, it's a preserved gold mining town with a pub that looks like it hasn't changed since 1890. Dullstroom is the fly fishing and craft beer capital. Sabie and Graskop make good overnight stops if you're working your way along the escarpment.
