The Western Cape is where most people picture themselves when they think about a caravan trip in SA. And fair enough, you've got the Garden Route, the Winelands, the West Coast, and Hermanus for whale season all within a few hours of Cape Town. Kampi has caravan rentals based in and around the city, so you can pick up and head east along the N2 toward Mossel Bay, George, Wilderness, Knysna, and Plett. Or go north to the Cederberg. The roads are good, the campsites are well-run, and the weather plays along most of the year.

The Garden Route is the classic, 300km along the N2 from Cape Town to Storms River. Wilderness beach, the Knysna Lagoon, Tsitsikamma's suspension bridge, and the Bloukrans bungee if you're feeling brave. The West Coast is quieter and turns orange with wildflowers in August and September. The Winelands (Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl) are great for a weekend, good campsites and even better wine. Hermanus has whales from June to November and Arniston is worth the detour. The Cederberg is where it gets properly remote, rock formations, San rock art, natural swimming pools. Bring a 4x4 camper if you can.
