Alan and Sandy started GallivantingSA off the back of years spent living on the road. Alan grew up in Glasgow. Sandy spent her childhood holidays in the Kruger. They met in South Africa and discovered they were both mad about overland travel.
They started with an Isuzu KB and a rooftop tent. Then a Mitsubishi Colt ClubCab. Then a Unimog cab conversion. Eventually, with Alan past 60, they took a full year off and drove Cape Town to Cairo, through Namibia, Botswana, Malawi, Uganda, Zimbabwe and beyond. Sandy put it simply: "The trip was phenomenal. The experience was beyond words."
When they got back, things weren't easy. A business manager had let things fall apart. But they rebuilt. Sandy picked up her graphic design clients again, and they poured everything they'd learned into building GallivantingSA. Not from a boardroom. From the road.
These days they travel in a Ford Transit Campervan, still adding new spots to the platform as they go. The directory keeps growing through community contributions and their own trips.
