This happens more than it should on any rental platform. A host declines a booking, sends a message explaining why, and then life gets busy. The calendar never gets updated. The dates sit there looking available when they're not. The next enquiry gets the same answer.
We've done something about it.
We built a daily task that reads through host messages and picks up when a host has told a renter that their camper is already taken for specific dates. When we find those signals, we block those dates in the listing calendar so they stop showing up as available.
The system understands both English and Afrikaans. Phrases like "already booked", "fully booked", "rented out", "reeds bespreek", "vol bespreek" and "nie beskikbaar" all trigger the block. We only act on declined or cancelled bookings, and only on future dates, so nothing historical gets touched.
We also built in guards for false positives. A guest asking "is dit reeds bespreek?" (is it already booked?) reads very differently from a host stating "dit is reeds bespreek vir daai tyd." The system can tell the difference and only blocks dates when the host is making a clear statement, not answering a question.
Over 5,500 trips have been completed on Kampi, with a 4.9-star average across 658 reviews. That track record is built on people actually getting the experience they booked. Accurate availability is a big part of that.
