The West Coast National Park wraps around the Langebaan Lagoon — crystal clear water, white sand beaches, and a massive wetland that draws migratory birds from across the globe. It's only 90 minutes from Cape Town, making it an easy weekend escape. The Postberg section opens in wildflower season (August-September) and the display is spectacular. Langebaan town has caravan parks on the lagoon. Rent a camper in Cape Town and spend a weekend kitesurfing, kayaking, or just watching flamingos on the lagoon at sunset.
Langebaan Lagoon is the centrepiece — sheltered, warm, and perfect for watersports. Kraalbaai beach inside the park is often called SA's best beach (turquoise water, white sand, no crowds on weekdays). The Stofbergsfontein bird hide overlooks a wetland teeming with flamingos, pelicans, and waders. The Postberg wildflower season (mid-August to mid-September) paints the hills in orange, purple, and white. Saldanha Bay is nearby for seafood. The West Coast Fossil Park has ancient fossils and guided tours. Paternoster village to the north is a picture-perfect fishing hamlet with excellent restaurants.

The park itself doesn't have caravan camping, but Langebaan town has several caravan parks with lagoon access. You can enter the park daily for the beaches, birding, and wildflowers.
About 120km — roughly 90 minutes via the R27 (West Coast Road). Easy drive with a camper. The R27 has farm stalls selling biltong and bokkoms.
Mid-August to mid-September. The Postberg section of the park opens only during flower season. It's a once-a-year event and worth the trip.
One of the best spots in SA. The lagoon is flat, warm, and the summer southeaster blows consistently. Several kite schools operate on the beach. Great for beginners and experts.
