Mabalingwe Nature Reserve is a Big 5 private reserve in the Waterberg, about 28 km from Bela-Bela. It covers roughly 9,000 hectares and has lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino roaming the bush. The caravan park has 70 stands with power, communal ablutions, and a swimming pool complex with waterslides and jacuzzis. A restaurant and convenience shop are on site. It's about 1.5 hours from Johannesburg on the N1.
The caravan park at Mabalingwe has 70 stands with a mix of paved and grass surfaces, some shaded, some in full sun. Standard electrical points are at all stands (bring a 15-metre extension cord). Three ablution blocks serve the park with toilets, showers, basins, and two family bathrooms. A scullery and laundry (washing machine and tumble dryer) are available. The Big 5 are the headline act. Guided and self-drive game drives run through the reserve, and there's a predator park and horse riding on offer. The pool complex has heated and cold pools, waterslides, jacuzzis, and a putt-putt course. A restaurant serves pizza and pub food, and a liquor store and convenience shop cover essentials. With 36 mammal species and 220 bird species, the binoculars stay busy. The reserve is malaria-free and the Waterberg Biosphere surrounds it.
