Lower Sabie is one of Kruger's most scenic camps — perched on the Sabie River with hippos grunting in the water below your campsite. The surrounding area is diverse: riverine forest, open grassland, and thick bush. Game viewing is excellent year-round. The camp has powered caravan stands, a pool overlooking the river, a restaurant, and a well-stocked shop. It's about 5 hours from Gauteng via Malelane or Crocodile Bridge gates. Rent a camper on Kampi, take the N4 east, and you'll be watching hippos from your camping chair by late afternoon.
Lower Sabie's stretch of the Sabie River is one of the most productive game-viewing areas in Kruger. The road from Lower Sabie to Skukuza along the river (H4-1) is considered the best game drive in the park — elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard are all regularly seen. Sunset Dam, a 5-minute drive from camp, is a reliable spot for hippo, crocodile, and a variety of waterbirds. The southern Kruger around Crocodile Bridge is also excellent for rhino. Plan at least 3-4 nights to properly explore the area.

The river location. Your caravan stand overlooks the Sabie River — hippos, crocs, and elephants come to drink below the camp. Sunset Dam nearby is one of Kruger's best waterholes. The H4-1 road along the river to Skukuza is legendary for game sightings.
Take the N4 east toward Nelspruit, then head to Malelane Gate or Crocodile Bridge Gate. It's about 450km from Pretoria — roughly 5 hours' drive. Both gates are close to Lower Sabie inside the park.
Yes. Powered caravan stands with braai areas, communal ablution blocks with hot water, a camp shop, restaurant, and swimming pool. Book stands through SANParks.
Winter (June-September) is the dry season — animals concentrate around water and the bush is thin, making spotting easier. Summer is hotter but the bush is green and bird life explodes. Both seasons are good.
