Caravan Rental near Bontebok National Park

Bontebok National Park is one of SANParks' smaller reserves, and that's exactly what makes it special. No crowds, no rush, just the Breede River, fynbos-covered hills, and the bontebok that the park was created to save from extinction. The caravan sites have electrical hookups and you're a short walk from the river — bring a camp chair and a book. Swellendam is 5 minutes down the road for restaurants, shops, and some of the best Cape Dutch architecture outside Stellenbosch. Rent a camper on Kampi, take the N2 from Cape Town, and you'll be set up in under 3 hours.

About Bontebok National Park

The park sits on the banks of the Breede River, and swimming in the river is one of the highlights — clear water, rocky pools, and completely peaceful. Game drives are relaxed affairs: bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, red hartebeest, and plenty of birds, especially blue cranes. The Acacia Loop and Aloe Hill trails are easy walks with good views. Swellendam itself is worth a wander — Drostdy Museum, the Old Gaol, and a handful of good restaurants. Marloth Nature Reserve above town has serious hiking if you want to stretch your legs. The Overberg region around here is also home to De Hoop Nature Reserve, about an hour east, which has some of the best whale watching on the coast.
