ATKV Hartenbos is one of the most iconic caravan destinations on the Garden Route — a sprawling beachfront resort between Mossel Bay and George. Families have been coming here for decades, and the December holidays at Hartenbos are a South African tradition. The resort has waterslides, swimming pools, tennis courts, a games room, and direct beach access. The caravan park is massive — hundreds of stands with power, some with sea views. Rent a camper on Kampi in Cape Town and drive the N2 east for about 4 hours, or pick up closer to the Garden Route if available.
Hartenbos is perfectly placed on the Garden Route. Mossel Bay is 10 minutes west — the Dias Museum, shark cage diving, and the St Blaize hiking trail. George is 20 minutes east — Outeniqua Pass, the steam train, and the golf courses. Keep going east and you hit Wilderness (beach and lagoon), Knysna (the Heads, the lagoon, Featherbed), and Plettenberg Bay (Robberg Peninsula, whale watching). The whole stretch from Mossel Bay to Storms River is packed with things to do. Hartenbos makes a great base for day trips along the Route.

Yes. Rent a camper on Kampi — most Western Cape listings are in Cape Town. Drive the N2 east for about 4 hours to Hartenbos. The resort has hundreds of caravan stands with electrical hookups.
About 390km — roughly 4 hours via the N2. The drive is scenic, especially the stretch through Swellendam and along the coast.
Beachfront caravan stands with power, ablution blocks, swimming pools, waterslides, tennis courts, mini-golf, games room, restaurant, shop, and direct beach access. It's one of the biggest resort caravan parks in the country.
December holidays are the classic Hartenbos experience — busy, festive, warm. But spring (Sep-Nov) and autumn (Mar-May) are quieter and the weather is still good. Winter can be rainy but the Garden Route has its own charm in the cold months.
